I received complementary tickets in exchange for my review of School of Rock – The Musical
Last night I went to see School of Rock – The Musical at the Keller Auditorium, and I am still in shock. The fact that these young kids had the talent and ability to dance, sing, act, AND play their instruments as well as they did is incredible. YES! They were playing their instruments live!
I haven’t seen the movie School Of Rock in at least 10 years, so I didn’t remember a ton of the plot line. Basically, School of Rock – The Musical is a hilarious new musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.
While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
I went to see School of Rock – The Musical with my teenage sister. Before we left for the show, she was questioning whether this was a show for “little kids.” After seeing it again, I can assure you that while it is a family friendly show, it is definitely not just for little kids!
School of Rock – The Musical will take you on an emotional journey. There is plenty of adult humor, slapstick comedy, heartfelt moments, and tons of ROCK! After plenty of laughs, you will be brought to an emotional song; “If Only You Would Listen” sung by all of the children at Horace Green. While their parent believe they are providing their children with the best, the only thing the student’s want if for them to listen and spend time with them.
This leads us into one of the main songs, “Stick It To The Man.” This is School of Rock – The Musical’s power anthem throughout the rest of the show, and where the students show their strength and determination for the first time.
As Dewy and the students continue practicing for the battle of the bands, we come to one of my favorite scenes. Dewy and the headmistress are at the Roadhouse Dive Bar, and she realizes she has missed the rock n’ roll in her life through the beautiful song: “Where Did The Rock Go?” This song had my eyes full of happy tears, and the intoxicating melody couldn’t go on too long for me!
In the end, the Headmistress gives Dewy permission to attend the battle of the bands with his students. But, of course, things can’t go as planned due to an unexpected (or expected) twist!
Grab your tickets now to attend School of Rock – The Musical at the Keller Auditorium for an unforgettable experience. I can promise you that you will be blown away with the music, sets, and the overall feel of the entire show.
