This sensory activity is perfect calming down your younger children right before a quiet time or a nap. My youngest brother did this activity when he was at the age where he didn’t like naps, or after a temper tantrum. Taking a few minutes to play with this sensory activity would help clear his head and calm his breathing, and it would be much easier to talk to him when it was time to nap, or talk about the tantrum he had before.
After long days at school, fights with siblings, over stimulation, or just these hot summer days, kids can be just as tired, stressed, and cranky as we are, and deserve a little patience. Having this sensory activity be a routine right after school or before bed can help them be your perky, happy little one even more often. 😉
Rainbow Threading Sensory Activity:
The Supplies:
2” sections of yarn in the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)
Heart shaped latch hook form
7 clothespins
A plastic bin with clip on lid
The Directions:
Paint one clothespin for each color of the rainbow. I used paint markers for quick drying time.
Arrange the 2” sections of yarn in a plastic bin, in the pattern of a rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)
Add the painted clothespin to the side of the bin
Add the latch hook heart to the bin
Invite your children to explore the bin. Encourage them to thread the yarn through the holes in the latch hook heart form, to sort colors and clip them to the bin with the clothespins.
