Becoming a mom has brought me some of the most joy-filled moments of my life and I will be forever grateful for these minutes, hours, and days that I spend in the “thick of it.”
But, as everyone knows, the thick of it is not only beautiful, but it’s also pretty challenging. Don’t get me wrong – I try my best to appreciate it and I try my best to live in the moment, because I know these days are short lived, but there are also days where I feel like I’m failing, or I feel like the newest phase will never end.
This is all just a part of being a parent and we have to learn how to roll with the punches (not always easy, I know!). Rolling with the punches, living in the moment (+ really trying to appreciate the moment), and staying positive can really help you be the best person that you can be and also the best mom. If you are struggling to stay positive, I’m here to help.
Trust me – I have those days, too, but I’ve learned a lot. Here are a few ways to help learn how to keep a positive mindset as a busy mom-
Keep a schedule
As a busy mom, it can be hard to juggle everything that I need to juggle, without knowing what all is on my plate. Keeping a monthly or weekly schedule is a game changer.
You will know what is headed your way and you will be able to plan ahead of time, instead of waiting until the last minute to get everything together because you forgot about a playdate, a sports commitment, or an important school date.
Keep everything organized and know what is coming your way, ahead of time. Put it all on the calendar – travel dates, work dates, kid information, and more.
Connect with your kids
Connection helps everyone reduce stress and form positive connections with those around you, but when it comes to being a busy mom, sometimes it can feel like we prioritize everything ahead of our kids. Work, laundry, dishes, yard work – it all is high priority. How do you balance all of that AND spend quality time with your kids?
It is possible, but you have to be intentional about it. When you do carve out that time, make sure you connect with them and really spend quality time together. Put down your phone and give them one-on-one attention.
I promise that if you do this, you will feel a lot more satisfaction when it comes to how you are balancing everything in your life.
Self-care as a mom is absolutely essential
Taking time for yourself is essential when it comes to living a well balanced life, especially as a mom! There are many different ways to take time for yourself, but some of my best ideas are meditation, yoga, reading a book, journaling, reflecting on your day, sitting outside, drinking tea, stretching and taking a bath.
You can choose different activities if you prefer, but try to focus on activities that will allow you to reflect on your day, or activities that will give you positive energy. It can be tough to carve out time, but I believe that it’s essential.
Take a minute to breathe
Let’s face it: motherhood is a non-stop to-do list. We have a lot on our plates and sometimes, it can feel like more than we can chew. When this happens, stop and take a minute to breathe.
If your thoughts are often focused on the things you can’t control until the point that you’re exhausted, stop and take a breath. Everything will be okay in the end and you have to trust that.
Deep breathing can help you so much when it comes to a moment where you are feeling really stressed out or anxious, and it can also help you significantly when it comes to calming yourself down and getting back to a state of mind where you can really figure things out for yourself. Stress is bad for both mental and physical health, so it is something that you have to be very intentional about.
Take a minute to breathe whenever you are feeling overwhelmed and I promise that you will benefit from it greatly! Mental health is essential when it comes to keeping a positive mindset, so know when you need to take a minute and breathe. If you are struggling with mental health, or need more help keeping a positive mindset (I get it and you have no judgement here!), you might want to consider other options, such as professional counseling, or even talking things out with a friend or family member. If you are considering counseling, but don’t know where to start, find somewhere that has a location that is convenient to your home to make it easy for you to roll out of bed and make it to your appointment.
So, if you live in Marietta, you would want their office to be in Marietta. If you live in Peachtree City, it’s best to find therapy in Peachtree City GA. Alternatively, you could find an online therapy option, like the online therapy that Ray of Hope Counseling Services offers. They offer many options such as individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and more. Getting help is such a relief, so you do what you need to do to get the help you need.
Keeping a positive mindset as a busy mom can be challenging, but it will help you so much when it comes to your overall happiness and health. How do you stay positive?
