Middle and high school students need to be organized and prepared for the first day of school. Having all of the school supplies that they need is the key element to making it the start of a new year. Many schools provide you a list of what you will need for the school year, but if it doesn’t, here are some of the essential things.
Back-to-School Backpack
Every student needs a backpack to carry items to and from school. Because of the weight of books and other items, a backpack is ideal for your student. The right backpack will support your child’s back and provide comfort along the shoulders. Also, the bag should be made of high quality material to survive entire school year.
JanSport backpacks are very reliable. L.L. Bean also has sturdy backpacks, which are slightly more expensive than discount store bags. Consideration needs to be given to the high quality of these bags and that they can be used for several years.
Case-It Binder
Organization is key at the middle and high school level. Many students rely on three ring binders and separate folders for each class, but these items can easily be lost of damaged. Case-It has solved the issue of organization with their encased organizational system.
Case-It binders have become widely popular over the past few years. Styles vary, however, each one has a three ring binder built into it. Also, many come with a side filing system and pouch for writing instruments and other small supplies.
Parents can assist their teen to construct the Case-It binder for school use. First, purchase dividers for the three ring binder part. Label each divider with the name of the class. Behind the last divider place a pack of filler paper along the rings. Tell your teen to use a sheet of paper to take notes and then place it behind the appropriate divider.
Assignment Notebook or Planner
A planner teaches your teen how to organize and manage their workload. Many schools carry their own version, and discount stores also sell them. If you are interested, should look for the type that has holes punched near the spine. This will allow the planner to be store along the three ring binder.
The planner needs to have a space for writing day-to-day assignments. Teens should be told and showed how to write down the names of every class they have and next to it write the day’s assignment. Parents can make it a habit to check the planner every day to assist their child to complete their homework.
Back-to-school time can be expensive. New clothes and school supplies can cost hundreds of dollars. If you can, try and buy things that can last longer than one school year.
