Many people need lawyers for too many reasons to count. Whether you were in an accident, were injured on the job, or are being sued, you need the right lawyer for the situation and for yourself. Depending on your case, you may be spending a lot of time with the lawyer you choose, so it is important to find someone you can trust and relate to.
There are many times thought, where I question whether I would need a lawyer or not. When in doubt, always talk to family, friends, or even call a law office to get another opinion. See my other post about a few things to consider when choosing the right lawyer. Here are a few scenarios below on whether you need a lawyer, and what kind!
Auto Accident:
I will never forget my very first car accident when I was 17 years old. It was incredibly scary for me, and I had no idea what steps to take. I ended up with an injured back, neck, and had to miss several shifts at work and days at school. And to make things worse? I only had liability insurance on my 15 year old clunker car, and the person who hit me was completely uninsured. With medical bills and me being so young, I turned to my parents who helped me through the whole situation. My parents and I stumbled upon the Hunter Law Group, in which their lawyers specialize in personal injuries which was exactly what we needed. Contracts:
In my field of work, when I am signing contracts between Seasonal Memories and brands, there can be a TON of jargon I don’t understand. I used to just assume all brands and companies would be honest and not try to pull a fast one on me. But when I lost all right to my content and photos including my child because I had signed without reading, I was devastated. Not only were they able to legally use all of my content in any way they like, but they got it at a rate I would have never agreed to considering they were getting all rights to media.
Another reason to have a lawyer look it over it to make sure exclusivity terms are correct, payments and timing are correct, and a million other tiny details. When you are reading over a 10+ page contract, you are bound to miss something.
Injury At Work:
Thankfully, my husband is a part of a union company now, but he worked for a non union construction company for many years, and we witnessed all kinds of injuries to the workers. Whether the working conditions were unsafe, you were not properly trained, or there was just a freak accident, there are many ways a lawyer can help you without jeopardizing your relationship with the company.
My husband was always very cautious about work, and didn’t want to “stir the pot.” So many times, if there was something going on that wasn’t right, corners were cut, or someone was encouraged not to sue or file for worker’s comp, he thought that was normal and didn’t want to risk being let go.
being a part of a unionized company that encourages safety training, unemployment and worker’s comp services when injures, and the union reps helping sort things out before involving the union lawyer, makes him realize there should have been more done about previous situations.
