Why go to a grocery store to pick up a pumpkin when you can sip cider, stomp through mud, and catch a hay ride to pick the perfect one for you? Personally, my favorite part about a pumpkin patch is the corn maizes. Whether it is themed, twisted, haunted, or anything else, there is just something about them that makes me feel like a kid again. Standing in the middle of a large field with fresh air and the sounds of mud squishing and stalks of corm being moved away makes me truly realize it is Autumn. Pumpkin patches are the perfect way to celebrate Autumn and the fast approaching holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving. Here are a few of my favorite patches that I’ve sloshed through in past years!
The Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island
– This pumpkin patch is on a small island in Portland and is one of my favorite for many reasons. There are free hay rides daily which helps out when you have lots of pumpkins or a few kiddos. They are also home to The Original Maize, this year it is Charlie Brown themed! After trekking through the pumpkin patch and getting lost in The Maize, warm up at the Patio Cafe with a hot chocolate or cider.
Bella Organic Farm
-Now, this is a fun Patch if you like haunted corn maizes! Their corn maize has over three miles of pathways all made possible with organic corn and solar powered lights.
Kruger’s Farm
– If the name Kruger sounds familiar, you know what is in store… I think of Freddy Krueger and remember how scary and fun this haunted maize was. It was perfect for a date night or with a group of friends. In addition, there are more family activities on this farm like hay rides, pony rides, and many farm animals.
Bi-Zi Farms
-This pumpkin patch features both corn and bale maizes for families and children of all ages. In addition to maizes, they have pony rides, pumpkin launching, pedal tractor driving, calf roping, corn shelling, and more!
I hope this helps you plan the perfect family outing this season!
