Being in a relationship can feel incredible- knowing that someone’s there for you, loves you and wants you can feel amazing, but let’s get real. Being committed to someone changes a lot- your priorities, the way you view the world, and your take on your own self, and more often than not, you may also find your personal growth taking a backseat. So before you get ready to get into a relationship, here are a few things you need to do beforehand- you’ll be thankful that you did!
Enlist what’s Important to You
Create a priority list before you get into a relationship, not after. For some, it may be family and friends, for others, it may be their career and work. Yes, your priorities will change, but it is okay to mentally set the rules for yourself, so that you can align your relationship and the way it is going with things that matter the most to you.
Inspire Yourself
Be passionate and motivated about the things that interest you, set goals and work hard towards them. Be an inspired person before you get into a relationship- it makes you a happier person in general, and you’ll also attract the right kind of people around you.
Love Yourself
This one’s probably the most important. A lot of people get into a relationship because they don’t love themselves enough, and they want someone else to love them, which sadly, doesn’t always work in their favor. Accept yourself just as you are, and acknowledge your flaws, but don’t dwell over them.
Be Okay with Being on your Own
This may sound contradictory, but before you dive into a relationship, it is important for you to learn to be on your own, and love it. Being independent will ensure that you’re getting into a relationship because you love your partner, not just to depend on them or to fill any mental void that you’re experiencing.
Contribute
Find a higher purpose- something that works for the greater good. Spend some time and energy serving the community and giving back. Figure out what gives you the most satisfaction, and spend some time out of your schedule helping out those in need, or doing your bit for the world that you live in.
