Easy Home Made Margarita Recipe
How many drinks have a type of glass named after them? Not many, that’s for sure, but the Margarita is one of the few. The familiar couplet-style glass, rimmed with salt and filled with deliciousness have become a glass everyone recognizes.
The drink is as iconic as the Martini or a Whiskey and Coke; a drink that any self-respecting bartender should be confident in making.
It has taken me a while to get my margarita proportions correct, I am very picky, and only like them at a few restaurants or bars. IBA Cocktail standard dictates that a perfect Homemade Margarita Recipe is 50% tequila, 29% triple sec and 21% lime juice.
As is the case with any cocktail, the key to a great Margarita is in the quality of the ingredients. Excellent Tequila is mandatory! Ensure that the tequila used is clear. 100% agave is best, and my choice is Jose Cuervo 1800 Blanco, pretty reasonable at around $25 per bottle.
One of the most readily available tequila is Jose Cuervo Gold; this can certainly work, but blanco is preferred. Whatever you choose to use, keep it chilled. Triple Sec most often comes in the form of Cointreau.
Also, make sure that you use fresh limes; they add so much to the overall impact of the Margarita; squeeze them literally to order, to maximize the freshness. Finally; use plenty of ice; it should be sticky to the touch.
The first Margaritas were served on the rocks, but you can also mix it in a shaker and just serve it in a rimmed Margarita glass. I love it both ways- over the rocks keeps it nice and cold, but when it is shaken, you don’t run into the problem of your drink being watered down toward the end.
But we don’t need a bartender to create the perfect margarita, just look below for the super easy recipe and make it yourself!
